Cantal is a department in south-central France. Its capital city is Aurillac. Cantal lies in the middle of France's central plateau.The principal rivers are the Alagnon, the Celle, the Truyère, the Cere and the Rhue. The Cantal range is a group of extinct and eroded volcanic peaks, its highest point being the Plomb du Cantal, which reaches a height of 1,858 meters. Other major settlements include Mauriac and Saint-Flour.
