Postcards of the Past

St Omer, Pas-de-Calais, France

Saint-Omer lies about 40 miles north-west of Lille in northern France. The marshland surrounding St Omer was originally dug out by monks in the 7th century, and part of this area is farmed, producing a wide variety of vegetables. The town itself has a weekly market in Place Foch, whilst a brewery, just beyond the town centre produces the local brew, ‘La Bière de St. Omer".
