Bremerhaven - originally Wesermunde - is a city and seaport in northern Germany, on the east bank of the River Weser. It is a comparatively new city, having been founded in 1827, and has a population (2010) of around 114,000. It has a large container port which lies just to the north. During World War 2 it was a key base for the German Navy, and thus was heavily bombed by the Allies, much of the city being destroyed. The old name of Wesermunde appears in several of our old postcards.
