Leipzig is the largest city in the federal state of Saxony, Germany. After heavy allied bombing during World War II, the city became part of the DDR until German reunification in 1990. Leipzig lies at the confluence of the White Elster, Pleisse, and Parthe rivers at the southern end of the North German Plain.
