Postcards of the Past

Athens, Greece

Athens, the capital and largest city of Greece, lies in the south of the country, in the Attica Basin. Its climate consists of long, hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It is often referred to as the Cradle of Civilization and the Birthplace of Democracy because of its cultural and political influence on the rest of Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries BC.
