Postcards of the Past

Billings, Montana, USA

Billings is the largest city in the U.S. state of Montana. It lies in the south-central portion of the state, and is the seat of Yellowstone County. The city is named after Frederick H. Billings, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. It is divided by the Rims, long cliffs, also called the Rimrocks, which run to the north and east of the downtown core, separating it from the Heights to the north and Lockwood to the east. The cliffs to the north are 500 feet high whilst to the east the face rises to 800 feet. Billings is 3,126 feet above sea level. The Yellowstone River runs through the southeast portion of the city.
